Reference
The phone and e-mail are used to address quick ready reference requests for patrons who are not in the area. Due to staffing levels, we can provide limited phone reference service to local patrons. We encourage you to visit the Library & Archives, 2nd floor, Erie County History Center, 419 State Street, Erie, PA, Tuesday through Saturday, 11:00 a. m. to 4:00 p. m.
Research
Researchers who live outside the region may contact us by phone, e-mail, or by letter. There is no charge for reference questions which can be answered quickly (15 minutes or less). The patron needs to include his/her name, street address and e-mail address and phone number. Sometimes xerox copies may need to be made to answer a question quickly. There is a charge of $.30 per page for copies plus $1.50 postage and handling.
Because many manuscripts and other papers in the repository are very delicate, we reserve the right to decline copying the original.
In-depth, complex research requests are billed at $25.00 per half hour. Pre-payment is required. Requests are analyzed so that a summary of sources can be provided for further inquiry. Because available staff time is very limited, turn-around time may be a minimum of 4 to 6 weeks. We reserve the right to decline a project, or refer the patron to other available sources. When at all possible, please plan on a personal visit to our facility for the best service.
