The publication policy
of the ECHS is directed to the publishing
of original research on the local history
of Erie County and the surrounding region,
and to reprint primary and secondary materials
of the area which are no longer available
to the general public. The active encouragement
of writers of recent local history is also
a goal.
The
Journal of Erie Studies
The Journal of Erie Studies was launched
as a joint scholarly venture by the Erie
County Historical Society and Mercyhurst
College in 1972. Both institutions continued
to co-sponsor the journal for the next twenty
years. Beginning in 1993 the Erie County
Historical Society assumed sole responsibility
for publication. Members of the Mercyhurst
history faculty remained interested in and
cooperative with JES since then. Mercyhurst
students' theses and other papers have continued
to comprise a major component of the studies
reported in JES to date.
