Library
& Archives staff have curated
exhibits, including “Capturing
the Light”, an exhibit on turn-of-the-century
photography in 1999-2000 which featured
over 250 images from the collections,
in the main gallery at the History
Center. |

Area
high school students and students
from Edinboro University, Mercyhurst
College, The Behrend College and Gannon
University frequently visit the Library
& Archives Research Room. They
may receive special orientation on
how to use the resources, or have
a presentation designed for their
special interests. Architecture students
and criminology students, art history
and environmental history students
have worked with the staff this past
semester. |
In
1997, Erie County Historical Society
(pre-merger) received a grant from
the Erie Community Foundation to re-mat
and reframe selected items from the
collections, to improve long-term
preservation. As a result of the grant
612 items were rematted and rebacked
with acid-free mat board and descriptive
sheets were prepared. |

New
storage units were constructed and
new shelving was purchased and adapted
for framed storage needs. Work-study
personnel, community service workers,
volunteers and staff worked together
to complete the project. |
Recently
artist and Edinboro University educator,
Lisa Austin and her assistants worked
with the staff and members of the
Erie community to copy family photographs
showing events from childhood which
were then put in an installation exhibit
at the Erie Art Museum’s Frame
Shop called “....all the time
in the world.”. The copy negatives
and prints are now a part of the Library
& Archives’ collections.
