USING THE COLLECTIONS ON SITE
The best way to find what you need is to come to the History Center yourself. If you are planning to look for information beyond the “quick, ready reference” level, please call us first.

Many people use our resources. An “army of 1.75” staff members is responsible for all the functions of the Library & Archives. Some research material is on other levels. The staff pages most of the resources for researchers. We appreciate your co-operation. Volunteers, community service workers, and students help us on a varying schedule. Help us plan for your visit.

Give yourself the gift of time. Part of the fun of researching is the discovery. When you work with original documents and photographs, more time is needed to find what you want and need. We strive to be efficient and effective; however, it takes time to choose resources, locate boxes and folders, pull volumes, select images.

RESEARCH FOR OFF-SITE USERS
Erie County Historical Society supports on-site use of its extensive collections. On-site visitation provides the most thorough, comprehensive use of our resources, in consultation with our trained staff. ECHS recognizes the need for information access by patrons who are not in the region. For the best service, off-site patrons must provide a written research request via regular mail or FAX (e-mails are not accepted). One-half hour of search time is provided; each additional half-hour of reference service is available at $25.00 per half-hour. Members of ECHS who are not able to visit in person enjoy at 25% discount. A 20% discount is available for registered students and patrons with disabilities. Normal response time will be four to six weeks.

COPYING POLICY
$.30 per page for non-members; $.20 per page for ECHS and ESGR members and students. LIMIT of 25 pages per session at the lower price; any additional pages, $1.00 per page.

STUDENT USE OF COLLECTIONS
ECHS supports scholarship and access to our collections for research use. Students are charged a reduced rate for xerox copying of $.20 per page (up to 20 pages per session).

On occasion, a project will require digital copying of maps or other materials which cannot be safely copied on the copy machine or provided via normal channels in the time needed. The student will be granted special permission to take an image, after filling out a request based on the student’s need to use the image for a project, and agreeing to the terms of limited use.

Teachers will need to make arrangements for extensive use of the Library & Archives by their students. Contact Melinda Meyer, Director of Education for class access for upper grade school and high school classes.

College class use requires advance notice and approval by Annita Andrick, Director, Library & Archives. An appointment by individual students may also be required so that staff may provide quality service.
