ECHS
needs your help in preserving the
community’s past and present.
You are invited to share your family
stories and personal photograph collections
February 2nd at the History Center.
Society staff and interns are prepared
to scan photographs and record oral
histories on-site – share your
stories and enjoy light refreshments
while you wait. Information and images
collected will become a permanent
part of the archives and be used in
the sixth installment of the Ethnic
Erie Project…The African American
Experience, which opens early fall
2008.

Civil
War History Lives
at the Cashier’s House
Saturday, February 9th
11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
History Center, 419 State Street
In celebration of Black History Month
and President’s Day the Harry
T. Burleigh Society and the 111Th
P.V.I. Civil War re-enactors join
forces to present LIVING history at
the Cashier’s House. Dramatic
readings, music and singing, and a
series of vignettes bring the Civil
War era to life.
You'll be amazed and inspired by
the stories of the Waters and Burleigh
families as Rev. Adrianne Rush interprets
Elizabeth Waters Burleigh, the mother
of Harry T. Burleigh. Be a part of
an Abolitionist meeting led by Henry
Catlin, portrayed by David Sturtevant.
Catlin was a Euro-American hero who
risked his comfortable and successful
life for the cause of freedom. Hear
how he marched down the streets of
Erie, arm-in-arm with Frederick Douglass.
Admission is $4 Adult, $3 Senior,
$2 Child.
